Do you have a tired piece of furniture that you absolutely love but can’t bare to part with? Follow these easy DIY steps and spruce up your favourite piece with Chalk Paint!

1. PREPARE

Remove fixtures and fittings. Take out any drawers and paint them individually. Sand existing coating with medium grit sandpaper to improve adhesion of chalk paint.

step1

2. CLEAN

Clean with Metho to remove any dust or surface contamination; such as furniture polish, oil, wax or grease.

step3

3. REPAIR

Repair, fill and lightly sand and damaged areas. Conduct an adhesion test. In a discrete area, use a snap blade to cut a cross in the paint, then place masking tape over the cut and rip tape off. If there is paint on the tape, you need to sand a little more.

4. PAINT

Apply Base Coat using a high quality synthetic brush. For furniture with lots of detail, small or angled paint brushes are useful for reaching into moulding and cutout areas.

Apply the paint evenly, keeping brush strokes in the same direction for a smoother finish. Allow 2 hours to dry.

5. SAND

For a shabby chic look, lightly spot sand some of the edges and details, creating a distressed, vintage feel.

step5

6. PROTECT

For a durable, protective finish apply a matte clear topcoat or wax coating.
