GLOSS

The rule of thumb when choosing paint is, the more gloss present, the more durable it is. This is thanks to its high level of sheen. One benefit of gloss is that it is a lot easier to keep clean and is therefore perfect for high traffic areas such as, children’s rooms, hallways, kitchens and bathrooms. It is generally used on the trims of walls. Do keep in mind that it is highly reflective, so it will highlight any imperfections.

SEMI GLOSS

Looking for something with a little less sheen but the same durability as gloss? Semi gloss is your go to. It will provide you with same wash-ability as gloss but is still best to avoid if your walls have imperfections.

SATIN

Satin like gloss is perfect for hardworking rooms. It’s a champion at resisting mould, mildew and fungus. If your autumn project is to give your kitchen or bathroom a fresh coat of paint, satin is your choice of paint.

.

FLAT

If you’re looking for a solution to cover those imperfections then it is best to opt for a flat paint. Flat paint has a velvety matte finish and is often used on walls and ceilings. Flat paint compliments gloss well, but is not as easy to keep clean.

LOW SHEEN

Low Sheen has the best qualities of both the flat and gloss worlds. It hides imperfections like a flat does and is easier to wash and more durable like a gloss. It’s a smooth finish and is ideal for living rooms, hallways and bedrooms, it also gives off a subtle glow where light hits.
