Choosing the perfect paint colour for your room is one thing, but applying it correctly is another. The type of roller you use can make all the difference when it comes to the finish of your paint job. That's why we chatted with Craig from Paint Place Morwell about choosing the right roller for the right job. Here are some tips to help you achieve the perfect finish.
For walls and ceilings...
...it's recommended to use an 11-12mm pile fabric roller. This type of roller will give you a slight texture finish, cover small imperfections, and provide even coverage. If you have bigger imperfections to cover up, use a longer pile roller. This will lay more paint on your surface and give you a more textured finish.
When it comes to doors and trims...
...you want a nice smooth finish. To achieve this, use a 5mm pile microfiber roller. Microfiber rollers have minimal shedding of fibres, which is perfect for using with enamel paints, whether water or oil-based.
When painting the exterior of your home...
...it's important to use the right type of roller on rough surfaces like brick, render or rough-sawn timber. For these types of surfaces, use a 22-32mm pile roller. This will help lay the paint into the crevices of the textured surface for a more even finish.
If you have a smaller area to paint...
...or want to get into tighter spaces, small rollers are an excellent option. They come in fabric and microfiber and will give you a similar finish to larger rollers.
Choosing the right roller for the job can make all the difference when it comes to the finish of your paint job. Consider the type of surface you're painting and choose the appropriate roller for that surface. With the right tools and techniques, you can achieve a professional-looking finish that you'll be proud to show off. And if you're still having issues, no sweat.
