How to Repair and Paint a Panel using Concept Paints 'No Mix System'

A Step by Step guide using Concept Paints products, designed to give you a professional finish every time.

Step 1: Preparation:

Products required for this segment:

- Concept Paints Wax & Grease Remover

- Abrasive paper & lint free clean cloth

- Appropriate protective clothing and safety gear must be worn throughout the repair process

· Evaluate the condition of the job and then decide on the area of the repair which needs to be repaired and painted.

· Remove any loose material from the surface.

· If your paint surface is in good sound condition, simply rub back the panel with P400 grit abrasive.

· Upon achieving the desire surface finish after sanding back your panel, clean your surface thoroughly using Concept Paints Wax & Grease Remover with a clean lint free cloth.

· Using a second clean lint free cloth, wipe away any remaining Wax & Grease Remover residue, ensuring your surfaces is thoroughly cleaned prior to applying your Primer.

Step 2: Primer - Applying Concept Paints Acrylic/Epoxy Primer to your Panel:

Products required for this segment:

- Wax & Grease Remover

- Concept Paints Concept Paints Primer/Epoxy Primer

- P600 or P800 Wet & Dry Abrasive.

Primers Available for existing painted surfaces:

- 1K Acrylic Primer Suitable for the DIY Market not suitable for trade

- 1K Two in One Primer Suitable for both DIY and Trade

- MS 100 2K Primer Suitable for both DIY and Trade

- HS 2K Primer Suitable for Trade of high end-user

Primers Available for bare metal surfaces:

- Epoxy Primer Great for resprays or show cars

- 1K Etch Primer Suitable for both DIY and Trade

- 2K Etch Primers Suitable for both DIY and Trade

- 2K HS Primer also suitable

· For this next step you will require Concept Paints Primer product used in accordance with label instructions. Most primers are used to go over existing painted surfaces

· If you are working on bare metal Concept Paints Etch Primer or Epoxy Primer is recommended for this type of surface/repair.

· Before applying your any primer make sure you are wearing the appropriate safety clothing and equipment and begin to place masking paper over unaffected areas which are not being repaired such as bonnets, roofs and boot lids,side panels etc, in order to protect existing surfaces from overspray.

· Now that your surfaces are clean and masked off, apply 2-3 even coats of Concept Paints Primer and gradually increase film thickness whilst applying each coat.

  • Flash off times between each primer coat is around 5 minutes, if working in temperatures 25 °C.

  • Primer drying time: Prior to applying any topcoat colour allow product drying times as noted on the Technical data sheets or as per the product directions.

  • Sanding: If required, P600 for solid paints or P800 abrasives for metallic colours.

  • After sanding wipe surface down thoroughly with Concept Paints Wax & Grease Remover prior to painting.

Spray Gun & Pressure:

· 1.8 – 2.0 mm tip through a gravity feed gun.

· Pressure required is @ 350- 450 kPa.( Kilopascal)

Acrylic Primer Aerosol Product:

· If applying Primer using Concept Paints Aerosol Acrylic Primer, this product is

· pre mixed and is a ready for use product. (Needs to be shaken thoroughly).


Step 3: No Mix Colour:

Products required for this segment:

- NM Reducer/Thinner

- No MIX Paints Mixed Colour

o 1 Part Concept Paints NO MIX colour, then add by volume 70%-100% of No Mix Reducer if applying colour with a Spray Gun.

Spray Gun & Pressure:

· 1.2 – 1.4 mm tip through a gravity feed gun.

· Pressure required is @ 200- 240 kPa.

NO MIX Aerosol Pre-Mixed Colour:

· If applying colour using No Mix Paints Injectable Aerosol Professional Paint, this product is pre mixed and is a ready for use product (needs to be shaken thoroughly).

Colour Application:

· Apply 3-4 even coats of No Mix colour and ensure your colour is evenly applied and good coverage is achieved.

· Allow 5-10 minutes between coats @ 25 °C

· After applying your final coat of No Mix Colour, allow the No Mix paint to dry for 30-40 minutes before applying your clear coat.

Step 4: Clear Coat:

Products required for this segment:

- Concept Paints Super Gloss Clear

- Acrylic Clear coat or 2K Clear Coat

- Acrylic Thinner

· Apply 3 coats of Concept Paints 1K Clear Coat (aerosol ready for use, needs to be shaken thoroughly)

· If using Concept Paints (non aerosol) Acrylic Clear, add thinner 1½ parts of Concept Paints Acrylic Thinner by volume. Apply 3 even coats of Concept Paints Acrylic Clear.

· Flash off times between coats; allow 5-10 minutes between coats @ 25 °C

· Prior to buffing allow overnight drying of the Acrylic Clear before polishing and buffing. Allow product to stand for longer periods due to colder temperatures prior to sanding back and buffing/polishing.

· Super Gloss Clears. Optional use 1200 grit sanding to block off the film coat of clear prior to polishing to achieve desired gloss finish.

*Helpful Hint* If planning to apply Acrylic Clear in colder temperatures, to reduce the effects of blooming or clouding add 5-10% Concept Paints Retarder Thinner.

Spray Gun & Pressure:

· 1.5 – 2.00mm tip through a gravity feed gun.

· Pressure required is @ 300- 400 kPa.

Product and Additives:

- Concept Paints Acrylic Primer

- No Mix Colour

- Concept Paints NM Reducer

- Concept Paints Acrylic Thinner

- Concept Paints Acrylic Clear

- Concept Paints Super Gloss Clear

- Concept Paints Retarder

- Concept Paints Wax & Grease Remover

Suitable Substrates:

- Concept Paints Acrylic Primer

- Concept Paints 2K HS Primer

- Sound and existing surfaces, except for weak surfaces such as nitrocellulose or enamel substrates.
